Millwall have impressed this season with their strong performances both in attack and defence. Their Championship promotion campaign has been exceptional so far.

Femi Azeez has been the spark behind much of their success. The 24-year-old winger has finally arrived at this level with real impact and confidence.

Azeez was EFL Championship Player of the Month in February 2026 and is attempting to help Millwall bounce up to the Premier League.

Femi Azeez’s Breakthrough Season

Azeez joined Millwall from Reading in 2024. "Last season was a bit of a feeler for me," he told Sky Sports. "League One to the Championship is a big jump, especially when you look at the quality there was at the top of the league last season." His second season has seen him flourish. He has expressed himself more freely and his confidence is high. "I do feel like this season I've come into my own. I put in a lot of work in the off-season, and I've been able to express myself a little more and show what I can do. I feel more relaxed and my confidence is high."

The winger has scored eight goals and provided eight assists at the time of writing. Several of these goals have been spectacular, making him a player worth watching for Easybet punters. Impressively, he has achieved this in just 25 starts and 27 league appearances at the time of writing. "I've had a couple of patches where everything I touched just turned into gold," Azeez said, as per Sky Sports. "I think about that October month as well where I scored four on the bounce coming back from an ankle injury. I do watch some of my goals and I do think, 'wow, that is incredible'. But I know I can do that now and I try to emulate that every game."

Overcoming Early Setbacks

Azeez’s journey to this level has not been straightforward. As a 14-year-old, he was released by Watford. He had to work his way back through the London non-league scene. Later, Reading signed him in 2019, where he spent five years before moving to Millwall. These experiences shaped his character and determination.

"It’s been a journey for sure!" he says. "As a 14-year-old hearing that you're going to get released is obviously heartbreaking and I was upset for quite a while, I'll be honest. I've seen both sides of the game so I think that as a young player going through that definitely hardens your mind and hardens your mental state." Competing against grown men at a young age tested him. "As a 16 or 17-year-old you're playing against grown men who have kids and who have something to fight for. It's definitely an experience."

He carries these lessons into every match. "I still take that into my games now, knowing that football can change so quickly and anything can happen in one moment and I could be back in the same position." Humility and gratitude have been key. "Being where I am now is a massive privilege and it's something that I'll work my hardest to not let go of. I always knew that football is what I wanted to do and I was going to make this happen one way or another."

Family Support and Mental Strength

Azeez credits his family for his mental toughness. "I'm strong-minded and I've had support from my parents and my brother as well who helped me along the way. I always knew this was what was going to happen. If I put my mind to it, I was going to be in the position that I am now." He reflects on his past with pride. "From where I've come from and the experiences I've had, to be in this position right now is incredible. I never lose sight of that because it has been a journey and it's been one of those journeys where I can look back at myself and be proud of that."

For someone who played in the Isthmian League South just seven years ago, this rise has been remarkable. Azeez is now part of a Millwall squad challenging for Premier League promotion.

Millwall’s Promotion Ambitions

The Lions have had several near misses in past play-offs. This season, their campaign has been stronger and more consistent. "The feeling around the club and around the changing room is definitely positive," Azeez says. "If we continue doing what we do then we know what can happen. If we think about promotion or getting to the next level I think we can get ahead of ourselves. We've got to stay humble. But with the gaffer and the lads in the changing room we will." Millwall’s unity and work ethic could be decisive in the closing stages of the season.

The winger’s form is central to their success. He has become one of the best-performing players in the Championship. This makes him an influential figure in both attack and overall team morale.

Looking Ahead for Azeez

Despite his achievements, Azeez remains grounded. "It has been a long road to get here but I'm still only 24," he says. "I've got plenty of years left in the game. Sometimes I do remind myself I'm not the finished product just yet, so I've got plenty of years to grow. I put in the work and I want to reach my potential, but also surpass my potential." He aims to keep improving while enjoying the present. "It is exciting to think what could happen, but I don't want to look too far ahead because if you look too far ahead you can kind of live in a fantasy land. My mind and my mental state is just to keep grounded, keep working hard and just keep improving every day. That's the main thing."

Azeez’s journey demonstrates resilience, determination, and talent. His progress has made Millwall stronger and brought excitement to the Championship. Fans can look forward to seeing him continue to shine while contributing to Millwall’s promotion push. As he grows further, his story could also inspire young players facing early setbacks, highlighting the power of perseverance and mental strength.

If Millwall are promoted to the Premier League, there could be the potential reunion of Millwall and West Ham (1.40) in the top flight for the resumption of one of global soccer’s biggest rivalries.

The Impact Beyond The Pitch

Beyond scoring goals and providing assists, Azeez’s presence motivates teammates. His performances have attracted attention in online sports betting markets. Bookmakers often highlight players who consistently influence games, and Azeez fits this profile. His ability to produce decisive moments increases interest in Millwall matches. This effect on online sports betting also shows the growing importance of individual brilliance in team success.
