Nairobi, Kenya-Residents of Nairobi's Lang'ata area have been urged to remain vigilant after reports surfaced of three lions roaming near the outskirts of the city, specifically near Langata Women's Prison.
In response to these sightings, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) swiftly deployed a team to search for the lions throughout Thursday night. Despite their efforts, the team was unable to locate the animals.
KWS has issued a statement assuring the public that they are continuing to monitor the situation with utmost diligence and are maintaining a high alert status.
"Ensuring the safety of the public is our top priority," the wildlife service emphasized, encouraging residents to report any further wildlife sightings in the area.
This is not the first incident of lions venturing out of Nairobi National Park, which is renowned for being the world's only game park within a city boundary.
The proximity of the park to urban areas occasionally leads to wildlife straying into residential neighborhoods, raising concerns about human-wildlife conflicts.
As the search and monitoring efforts continue, KWS remains committed to managing the situation and preventing any potential harm to both the local community and the lions themselves.
The ongoing efforts highlight the challenges of conserving wildlife while ensuring community safety in the unique context of Nairobi’s urban environment.
